July 2025 Sports News: Big Moments in U.S. Sports

Even though it’s summer, sports didn’t slow down. July had a lot going on, from NBA trades to Olympic news. Here’s a quick recap of the biggest stories in U.S. sports.
NBA: Big Trades and Summer League
The NBA offseason was busy. Donovan Mitchell was traded to the Miami Heat, teaming up with Jimmy Butler. The Lakers kept Anthony Davis but traded away D’Angelo Russell. Bronny James played in the NBA Summer League and showed real improvement. Lots of fans came just to watch him play.
NFL: Training Camps Start
Football teams returned to training camp in July. Rookie QB Caleb Williams looked strong in Chicago. Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow came back from injuries. Cowboys star Micah Parsons might not show up if he doesn’t get a new contract. And the NFL’s new kickoff rule is getting mixed reviews.
MLB: All-Star Game and Trade Rumors
Baseball’s All-Star Game took place in Texas. The American League won 5–4. Aaron Judge won the Home Run Derby, and Shohei Ohtani hit a game-winning double. As the trade deadline gets closer, the Mets might trade Pete Alonso, and the Giants want pitcher Dylan Cease.

Coco Gauff made it to the Wimbledon semifinals before losing to Iga Świątek. It was a strong showing from the 19-year-old. On the men’s side, Ben Shelton made it to the fourth round, another good sign for U.S. tennis.

The 2026 Olympics in L.A. are one year away. Sprinter Erriyon Knighton ran the world’s fastest 200m this year. Simone Biles announced she’s coming back to compete. Swimmer Katie Ledecky was great at trials and looks ready for another strong Olympics.

Lionel Messi kept leading Inter Miami, who are now first in the Eastern Conference. U.S. player Cade Cowell scored a crazy bicycle kick goal that went viral. Fans are getting more excited for the 2026 World Cup in the U.S.
