How to do well in high school

Although many people say that going into freshman year of high school is very hard, if you’re prepared and dedicated, it can be a walk in the park.

Even if you don’t think of yourself to be a particularly smart person, don’t worry. Lots of high school is being able to game the system. Doing well academically in high school can be broken up into different aspects. I’ve broken it down briefly into 3 different aspects: relationships with others, being prepared, and being responsible.

Be Nice To Teachers

A huge part of succeeding in high school is making the teachers believe you’re smart/invested in their class. You want to seem like the smart person, not necessarily to everyone, but especially to the teacher. You can do this very easily at the start of the year when everyone’s new. You don’t have to know the question, but for the first couple of weeks, ask and answer questions with some thought to show the teacher that you care. Teachers will be more likely to help a student whom they know cares rather than someone who never speaks in their class.

Be Prepared

Another aspect that comes along with being a high schooler is the increased responsibility you need to have with your schoolwork. Although many teachers put homework and tests on Canvas or other apps, some may only tell you verbally. When you leave your class, you should get into a regimen of writing down what assignments and tests your teacher told you about, and the date that they’re due. I recommend that you either use Apple Reminders or Google Tasks so that when you put something down, it syncs to your other devices.

Relationship With Friends

To do well in high school, you also have to make do with the other resources that you have. At the beginning of the year, start to get the numbers or snap of classmates at your tables. Over the following years, you’ll get a majority of your peers’ numbers, so you can ask a plethora of questions. You can ask them how they did their homework, if there’s a test the next day, or for their notes to study.
